History
Leaving school in 1945, Norman Walsh went to work as an apprentice for Fosters Footwear Bolton (Fosters became REEBOK). There he was trained as a specialist maker of athletic Schuhe for Fosters professional athletes. In 1948 he was selected to make the track spikes for the British Olympic sprint team. In the next decade, Norman's reputation grew as one of the best athletic Schuhe makers in the country as he was requested by Fosters customers nationally and internationally to make their Schuhe personally. In 1961 Norman Walsh left Fosters and established his own company Norman Walsh Footwear in Bolton. Norman's creative innovation started to evolve in all aspects of Athletic footwear production by using modern materials such as lightweight nylon and EVA soles instead of leather and rubber with weight savings of approximately 50%. During the 60s, Norman's Schuhe became the must-have footwear across many sports from rugby, cricket and running. During the 1960's, 70's and 80's, high profile sports stars were seen regularly at Norman's premises, including Rugby stars Alex Murphy, Des Drummond, cricketers Joel Garner, Clive Lloyd, Wrestlers Giant Haystacks, and Big Daddy Mountaineer Sir Chris Bonington and Runner Roger Bannister to name a few. In 1970 Norman developed his mountain/fell running footwear originally using a deep cut V-Ripple outsole (Pennine Adder), then he used a moulded football Stiefel soles and eventually produced the PB Trainer with all new pyramid shaped studded rubber. The PB Trainer firmly established itself as the number one Fell running Schuhe with other variants to follow, Racer, Xtreme, Ultra and Junior. Today, Norman Walsh Footwear still continues to produce Athletic footwear at its own factory in Bolton and is the only British company that still produces British made athletic Schuhe.
